West Indies VS Bangladesh 3rd T20I Highlights: Bangladesh win by 80 runs
This marks the conclusion of the all-format series. The Tests ended in a 1-1 draw, while West Indies triumphed 3-0 in the ODIs, and Bangladesh responded by replicating the same scoreline in the T20Is. A surprising outcome in the T20Is, but full credit to Bangladesh for their outstanding team performance. There are some challenging questions for West Indies, particularly regarding their batting in this format. With that, we wrap up here. Be sure to join us for more cricket on this platform. See you soon. Goodbye for now.
The series trophy is awarded to Litton Das, who invites Ripon Mondol to join him for a photo with the trophy. The rest of the team stands behind Ripon, cheering and smiling.
Litton Das | Bangladesh Captain
“We performed really well in both Test cricket and ODIs, although we didn’t win. But we stayed confident. We know we have a strong bowling wicket, and if we post a good total, we can defend it. [On Phil Simmons] He never puts any pressure on us; we feel free to play our cricket. It’s not just him, but all the coaching staff and management are incredibly supportive. We are improving every day, and this wicket was quite good for batting. The way our bowlers showed their character was remarkable. At the moment, their batting order looks stronger, with power hitters, but defending 190 was a significant achievement. Overall, we played very well, and whenever we play again, we need to keep performing well and come back even stronger.”
Rovman Powell | West Indies Captain
“In the middle overs, we bowled quite well, but we couldn’t control the powerplay or the death overs. It’s been a matter of losing wickets in clusters—if you lose wickets in the first two overs, you’re always going to struggle. This has been the trend for the last eight games. We now have time to address these issues. Our next series is not until May 2025, so players will have time to review and fix the small mistakes. Hopefully, we can correct those by 2025. [On Bangladesh] They’ve been outstanding, especially after the ODI series. I wish them a safe return home. This is my first full year as captain. We’ve made progress, improving from ninth in the rankings, but it’s disappointing to see how we’ve dropped off in the last few series. You can sense when we start to slip. To all the fans of the Caribbean, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
Mahedi Hasan | Player of the Series
“During the World Cup, we had a lot of options, which is why I didn’t get to play much. My experience in the Global T20 league helped me a lot here. I enjoyed bowling on these kinds of wickets, and we planned to bowl wicket-to-wicket. I know Pooran well from playing with him in the BPL and other leagues. He’s a challenging batter for a right-arm off-spinner, but we had a plan to counter him. We didn’t have a great ODI series, but in the T20Is, the team was hungry to do well, and hopefully, we’ll carry this form into the Champions Trophy.”
Jaker Ali | Player of the Match
“This has been a fantastic series for me overall. Today, the wicket was much better compared to the previous two games. I took my time, knowing that if I stayed in, I could score big. There was a mix-up during my innings, but the third umpire reversed the decision, and luckily, I went on to score runs. It’s all about the mindset. I know the West Indies players will always come hard, no matter the format. I’ve played the World Cup here, and although I didn’t do well then, things have been going much better for me in this format.”
Summary
23:36 Local Time, 03:36 GMT, 09:06 IST: Bangladesh has made history by achieving their first-ever T20I series whitewash over the West Indies. They did it with a young squad, many of whom were not regulars. Today’s 80-run victory was the perfect ending to an outstanding performance. Taskin Ahmed set the tone by dismissing King in the first over, and once again, West Indies lacked a batter who could stay and build an innings. Mahedi took Pooran out for the third time in the series, and aside from Shepherd, the others couldn’t cope. Bangladesh bowled superbly as a unit, with all five bowlers contributing. Rishad was the standout with a three-wicket haul. West Indies will be left reflecting on their batting struggles, which have been a major issue throughout the series. Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony!
